Complex script and aesthetic style

What I particularly want to pay attention to in this work is the script. When it comes to movies that are based on novels, the basic response is to cut off the branches and make them simpler. Particularly in Hollywood entertainment movies, if the screenwriting techniques are thoroughly adhered to, they can entertain a large number of audiences. Despite this, this film is reminiscent of director Martin Scorsese's style of retaining many complex elements in the script and quickly depicting the tremendous amount of information, while also adding an aesthetic emotion to it. He adopted a distinctive production style.

The content, in which the scenes that took a lot of effort flow one after the other, may at times leave the audience exhausted. However, by aiming for the last line that leaves the viewer behind, this film acquires overwhelming depth, and there is a proper "noir world" there, creating an atmosphere that makes you feel as if you can step into the screen. is fostered. And the glittering world that existed only in Los Angeles, the "dream city" of Hollywood's Golden Age, creates an atmosphere that makes you feel as if you are comfortably intoxicated with a high-quality cocktail.

Jack (Kevin Spacey) is a seasoned veteran detective who serves as a consultant for TV detective dramas and secretly leaks information to gossip magazines. Bud (Russell Crowe) is a hot-blooded and militant detective who cannot tolerate violence against women. Ed (Guy Pearce) is a young elite detective with a brilliant mind and a promising future. What is unique about the setting of this work is that these three detectives are the main characters, and their movements, which are separate, sometimes intersect and sometimes show cooperation.

Ed, who is practically guaranteed a promotion as a career officer, hopes to work in the toughest detective division in the police station, where "ruffians" and "eccentrics" like Bud and Jack are embodied. Inspector Dudley, played by James Cromwell, who played the role of a kind-hearted farmer in " Babe " (1995), advises Ed, "To confront violent crimes, you need physical strength and sometimes you need to get your hands dirty in a dirty way." However, Ed has had a burning heart since childhood, wanting to become a person who fights against the evil people who make the world evil, triggered by an incident that happened to his father, who was a detective.

Ed struggles to make a mark in the criminal division, skillfully interrogating boys who are believed to be involved in the Night Owl incident, and engaging in violent gunfire with black suspects who were exposed through testimony. He plays an active role in the battle, becomes a hero, and becomes a figure whose future advancement is expected...
