MCU forced to change plans due to the coronavirus pandemic
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) began with 2008's Iron Man . This is the largest project in the history of film, consisting of two films: a stand-alone film starring heroes such as Iron Man and Captain America, and an all-star series of films in which they fight together, the Avengers series. A feature of the MCU is its story structure, in which all individual works are connected. This revolutionary idea rapidly gained a deep fan base and made it the world's number one hit series.
The MCU is fundamentally different from creating sequels or spin-offs just because a movie is a hit, and it is similar to movies like ``Iron Man'' (2008), `` The Incredible Hulk '' (2008), and `` Iron Man 2. '' (10), ` `Thor '' (11), and `` Captain America: The First Avenger' ' (11) depict the activities of individual heroes, and then bring them together in `` The Avengers '' (12). There is.
This was also not a one-night-only festival-like event, but something that had been planned from the beginning. In his previous works, he has laid out foreshadowing, intertwined each other slightly, and presented them as a carefully calculated ``sequel.'' Although there were some changes in actors, from a close observer's perspective, it was a solid success, with Phase 1 (in the MCU, it is divided into ``phases'' in the sense of season 1 in dramas) being a success. Since then, he has released many masterpieces and hits into the world.
“Avengers: Endgame” trailer
The heroes' story came to a grand conclusion in 2019's " Avengers: Endgame ," and then " Spider-Man: Far from Home " (19) concluded [Phase 3]. It hinted at a development that would raise expectations for the subsequent [Phase 4], making fans happy (and excited at the same time).
However, the MCU's smooth sailing has now taken a turn for the worse. It is the global spread of the new coronavirus. Initially, the [Phase 4] lineup was announced at San Diego Comic Con in July 2019, and the order of release and distribution was
" Black Widow "
" The Falcon and the Winter Soldier "
“Eternals”
“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”
"WandaVision"
"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness"
" Loki "
"What If...?"
“Hawkeye”
“Thor: Love and Thunder”
was. ``Black Widow'', ``The Falcon and the Winter Soldier'', and ``Eternals'' were scheduled to be released and distributed in 2020, but that schedule was drastically disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. In the end, it was not possible to enter [Phase 4] in 2020, and the Disney Plus work ``WandaVision'' (21) was brought to us after a major change from the original order.
For this reason, WandaVision may be the most unique work in the current MCU. If we follow the flow of the conventional MCU, it seems likely that it will be connected to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but due to the circumstances mentioned above, it seems difficult to say (Marvel Studios representative Kevin Feige told The New York Times that the change in release and distribution order due to the coronavirus pandemic will have only a minor impact on the main story.
By the way, ``WandaVision'' is not a movie, but a drama series (scheduled for 9 episodes), and distribution began on January 15, 2021, Japan time. This time, I would like to mainly introduce the contents of episodes 1 and 2, which are currently available for viewing.
