Movies sometimes have an "alternative ending." A version that for some reason never saw the light of day. In the case of ``Fatal Attraction'' (1987) in particular, the content that was filmed but not included is so famous that it has become common knowledge to compare it with the released version. This debate is also a great topic for comparing whether movies are more themed or more business-oriented.
British film director and screenwriter James Dearden is best known as the director and screenwriter of ``Time After Time'' (1979), based on the short film ``Diversion'' (1980), which he directed from his own screenplay. The screenplay for ``A Fatal Attraction'' was completed with the help of Nicholas Meyer. The plot that was actually released is as follows.
Public version depicting the heroine as a psychopath
Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas) is a successful lawyer in Manhattan, and enjoys a fulfilling family life with his beautiful wife Beth (Anne Archer) and only daughter Ellen. However, one weekend while his wife and child are away, Dan ends up having an affair with Alex (Glenn Close), an attractive editor he met at a book party. As a result, he experiences fear that even involves his precious family. For Dan, it was meant to be just one night, but for Alex, it was the beginning of a serious relationship. The highlight of this work is the process by which the discrepancies in consciousness between these two people are exposed.
"Fatal Attraction" preview
By leaving Alex in bed, with whom he was deeply in love, and quietly leaving the apartment, Dan thought it was just a one-night stand, but after that, Alex persistently asked him out and they had another relationship. When Dan tries to leave again, Alex cuts his own wrist to stop him. I thought I could put an end to it by giving him first aid and calming him down, but suddenly I receive a phone call at the office. If you ask your secretary to leave the office, she will call you at home. On the phone, Alex tells Dan that she is pregnant and insists that she is going to have a baby and that he should take responsibility. ``I will never give up until you feel responsible.'' There was no lie in Alex's words.
The contrast between Alex, who endures loneliness in his cold apartment, and Dan, who invites his friends and his wife over for a chat and dinner, gives us a sense of the inequality in the world. The question arises: Is Alex the only one at fault?
Alex learns everything from Dan and warns that she will kill him if he gets any closer. Alex is cornered and ends up kidnapping Ellen. Enraged, Dan bursts into Alex's apartment and violently assaults her. Later, Alex suddenly appears in the couple's bathroom and attacks Beth, brandishing a knife. Dan senses this from downstairs and rushes in, using all his strength to submerge Alex in hot water and drown him, but Alex regains his breath and gets up again. However, Alex dies after being hit by Beth's bullet.
