America's inherent flaws, America's inherent flaws

Inherent Inherent Vice is a marine insurance term meaning ``inherent defect.'' The shipping company can refuse to pay insurance if the product is cracked, rusted, or otherwise unavoidable during transportation. You could call it an "inherent flaw."

Of course, in this film, the shipping company is replaced by America itself. It is translated as ``a flaw inherent in America'' or ``a flaw inherent in America.'' Therefore, no matter how much Doc fights alone, the mysterious organization called "Golden Fang" will not reveal its true identity until the end, and the mastermind will never be arrested. It is a system built into the world that no one can violate. To borrow the words of Big in the movie, this world is "an inconvenient world."

So there's a certain emptiness to Inherent Vice. All we can do is silently watch Doc's empty-handed actions. There's no heart-wrenching catharsis. Faced with an overwhelming amount of information, the story gradually becomes irrelevant. But each cut is so captivating that I find myself glued to the screen without even understanding why. Isn't this a true drug-like movie? The reason why I am partial to this work is because the ``California Hidden Figures of the 1970s, colored by intrigue and corruption'' shines in such a dazzling light.

One final aside. The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Denver, Colorado, organized a bus tour to celebrate the screening of Inherent Vice, where participants could smoke as much marijuana as they wanted. Marijuana is legal in Colorado. Paul Thomas Anderson was also on the bus, but he politely declined marijuana.
