Something similar to Fellini's masterpiece

There is another element to keep in mind when trying to understand The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. It has something in common with the masterpieces of the cinematographer Fellini. Here again, I will quote Baumbach and Anderson from the audio commentary.

Baumbach: "There are parallels with Mastroianni's Guido in Fellini's ' ' (1963). Although the story begins in a different way, Guido is also trying to reexamine past relationships."

Anderson: "The basic storyline is the same."

Indeed, in 8½, Mastroianni plays a troubled film director who reflects on his past relationships and relationships with women, and gets lost in dreams and fantasies, but still tries to move forward in life. These are the same obstacles that Murray's Zissou faces.

What's even more interesting is that "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" was shot at Rome's historic film studio, Cinecittà, the holy land where Fellini created many of his masterpieces. It's fair to say that this film was born under the spiritual influence of this film magician.

However, when Anderson actually puts out his work, he gives off a completely different impression than Fellini. He has a special talent for greedily absorbing the material in front of him and constructing a completely original, one-of-a-kind worldview from it.
