The existence of a jaguar shark with no clear answer

So, what exactly is the "jaguar shark" they are chasing in this work? In the audio commentary, Anderson also says:

"I'm often asked what the jaguar shark means. There's no clear answer, but there is one characteristic of that shark: it looks like a figment of something rather than reality."

Why did the shark have to be an artificial creation? Is it actually reality? Was it Zisu's lie? Is it a fantasy? There is probably no clear answer there either. Rather, it may be better to interpret this scene as engraved with Anderson's lifelong pursuit of filmmaking.

There's something moving about it. There is an abyss. In order for the entire crew to come together and gaze at this unknown landscape, they will continue to sail endlessly. Always has been and always will be.
