However, he had a secret that he had not told his girlfriend for over 20 years. In front of his best friend, a film director, he begins to quietly talk about his harsh life, which is so spectacular that he can't help but be moved by it.

Nominated in an “unprecedented” three Academy Awards categories
At the 94th Academy Awards in 2022 (2021), there was a nomination for the first time in history. One film was nominated in three categories: Best International Feature Film, Best Documentary Feature, and Best Animated Feature Film. Flee is a Danish film (co-production with Sweden, Norway, and France). Nominations in two categories, international feature and documentary, have been common in recent years. Some films have been nominated in these categories two years in a row, such as `` Honeyland '' (nominated at the 92nd Academy Awards in 2019) and ` `Collective' ' (nominated at the 93rd Academy Awards in 2019). . However, it is extremely unusual for the animation department to be included. This is because animated documentaries are rare in the first place.
Documentary and animation. Some people may feel uncomfortable about that. Generally speaking, documentaries are mostly ``live-action'' videos that have been recorded by the creator of actual events or testimonies, or materials that have been recorded in the past. Once it was made into an anime, it gave the impression that it was a ``fiction'' rather than an ``actual event.'' However, the definition of documentary is ``something made based on actual records without using fiction. A type of documentary literature or documentary film. A true record'' (from Kojien). If it's a true story, you can express it freely. Even in live-action documentaries, there is the possibility that various materials may be combined according to the creator's intentions, shifting the world one step away from reality. In the first place, modern action movies such as Marvel's films make heavy use of CG, and the line between live-action and animation has become even more blurred.
“Flee” preview
In the past, this animated documentary, for example Israel's `` Waltz on the Battlefield '' (2008), won or was nominated for several film awards in the documentary category despite being an animation. This is an animated film based on the director's past as an Israeli soldier on the front lines of the Lebanon War. In addition, in the wake of the Spanish Civil War, the anime `` Jusep: Battlefield Painter '' (2020), in which the main character is a real painter who experienced the harsh life in a concentration camp and escaped, depicts the reality of North Korean concentration camps. ` `True North '' (2020), a 3D animation based on the testimonies of the same people, also has strong documentary elements.
The term ``animentary'' was once coined to combine documentary and animation. Although it dates back quite a bit, these words remain in the 1971 TV anime `` Keisen '' by Tatsunoko Productions, which depicts the historical facts of the Pacific War. Animated documentaries tend to be war-themed, such as Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises (2013), which has some historical elements.
