Alice Through the Looking Glass, Frankenstein, Busby Berkeley

Victory Town is a false utopia with rigid gender roles. The name of the main character who wanders into the place is Alice, which is clearly a reference to Lewis Carroll's ``Alice's Adventures in Wonderland .'' No, the setting of entering another world through the mirror of the mysterious building "Headquarters" may be similar to the sequel "Through the Looking Glass ." When Alice tries to escape from the nightmare of patriarchy, men in red appear out of nowhere and stop her, perhaps inspired by the villain, the Red Queen.

In this town, mid-century modern mansions stand side by side, people drive classic cars like Ford Thunderbirds and Chevrolet Corvettes, and housewives dress in colorful and glamorous outfits. Although the setting is American suburbia in the 1950s, the excessive caricaturing shows that this is a fantasy world.

The Victory Project's founder's name, Frank (Chris Pine), is probably a reference to Frankenstein . This ghost story, published in 1818, tells the story of ``scientist Victor Frankenstein, who attempts to create an ``ideal human'' by piecing together corpse parts, but ends up creating the ugliest Monster in the world.'' story. ``Don't Worry Darling'' is also a story about ``Frank, a genius engineer, tries to create an ``ideal society'' by developing a program, but the end result is a horrifying male-dominated society.''

The original author of " Frankenstein " is British novelist Mary Shelley, and Frank's wife's name is also Shelley (Gemma Chan). At the end of the film, she stabs Frank in the stomach and declares, ``I'll take care of the rest,'' which may be a hint that she is the ``creator of creators.''

Another impressive feature of "Don't Worry Darling" is a monochrome dance scene in which countless women perform geometric movements. This choreography is probably a reference to Busby Berkeley, a musical choreographer who was active in the 1930s and 1940s. The kaleidoscope-like shot that looks down on the women from above has a very Berkeley-like composition.

His unique choreography, known as the ``magician of musical movies,'' was gorgeous, beautiful, and full of indescribable beauty. The unbroken movements are like a mass The Game. Yes, the role of female dancers is that they are pawns in a mass The Game . Just to entertain men. When Alice realizes The Truth, she continues to have nightmares about Berkeley-style musicals.

Through the Looking Glass ,” “ Frankenstein ,” Busby Berkeley. Don't Worry Darling gains strength as a narrative by carefully incorporating references from the classics.
