A dystopian science fiction allegorical depiction of feminist issues.

Olivia Wilde made her spectacular directorial debut with Booksmart (2019). She has built a solid career as an actress with films such as " Tron : Legacy" (10), "Rush " (13), and " Richard Jewell " (19), and is also regarded as an up-and-coming filmmaker. It came into existence.

“Honestly, I think fewer people will invest in a female director’s second film than a male director. My film didn’t make a billion dollars, but by stimulating the cultural zeitgeist, I Being There believe that from there I gained the right to say, ``I am a film director.'' (*)

Her skills in her debut work were praised, and many scenarios were sent to her. However, she refused all of them. This is because all of them were comedy movies similar to `` Booksmart ''. Rather, she was drawn to a strange science fiction thriller called ``Don't Worry Darling'' (22), which takes place in a rural American town in the 1950s. She sees potential in an idea that can allegorically depict the problem of feminism, ``women trapped in a man's society.''

"The sci-fi genre has a long history of films that can talk about political issues through entertainment. Stories that oversimplify feminism are neither fun nor moving. It's much more complex." (*)

Olivia Wilde has said that she used `` The Truman Show '' (1998) as a reference when making this film. This masterpiece, directed by Peter Weir, tells the story of Truman (Jim Carrie), who has been living in a fictional world as the main character of a reality show, but when he learns The Truth, he journeys into the real world.

Alice (Florence Pugh), who plays the ideal image of a man as a devoted housewife, is also caught up in the gender role of ``men working outside and women cooking and doing housework at home.'' Realizing this, he sets out on a journey to his own world. Indeed, it is structurally the same as `` The Truman Show .''

Alice almost suffocates many times in this movie, whether it's being crushed against a window or having plastic wrap wrapped around her. It was probably because she felt suffocated by this false utopia. This is probably because she has realized that she is nothing more than a person who satisfies men's sexual desires and appetites. This work is a dystopian science fiction that allegorically depicts the issue of feminism.
