“The Lady Vanishes” A classic suspense romantic comedy with plenty of humor *Note! Contains spoilers.

I'll give you a spoiler right away, but Miss Froy is a British intelligence agent, and Dr. Hertz (Paul Lucas), a spy from Bandorica, bribes the passengers on the train and tries to kidnap her... is the truth of the matter. Bandolika is clearly a fictional state modeled after Nazi Germany at the time, with a clear depiction of the political situation just before World War II.

However, ``The Lady Vanishes'' is not a serious international political suspense story. Rather, it is a humorous romantic comedy in which Iris and Gilbert, despite their conflicts, gradually develop a bond. There is a sophisticated comedy that is similar to Ernst Lubitsch and Billy Wilder.

In particular, the first act of this work is full of chaos. Foreign tourists caught in an avalanche are forced into a hotel in Mandorica, Iris is about to get married and is having a bachelorette party with her female friends, Gilbert is playing the clarinet in the name of researching folk dances, etc. It's already a big fuss. If you're feeling this screwball comedy! This first act takes just under 30 minutes, so the Hitchcockian thriller doesn't start until about a third of the way through the 97-minute running time.

By the way, the pair of avid cricket lovers Caldicott (Knownton Wayne) and Charters (Basil Radford) exploded in popularity after this movie. He has appeared in various films, including `` Night Train to Munich '' (40) and ``Millions Like Us'' (43). It's true that they're a very uneven duo, reminiscent of R2-D2 and C-3PO, and their frequent exchanges are fun to watch (you'd think these two would be the center of the story, but it's really just a story about cricket). (They were old men who did nothing but do things.)
