A controversial movie with the same theme as “Rosemary's Baby”

"The Race with the Devil" is about two couples, Frank (Warren Oates) and Alice (Loretta Switt) and Roger (Peter Fonda) and Kelly (Lara Parker), who go on vacation in a camper van and discover that they are members of a satanic cult. The story is about a man who happens to witness a group's ritual, and ends up being chased by them. Indeed, the devil will track you down to the depths of the earth. If it's scary, it won't happen.

However, the level of cruelty has been tuned to be quite lenient. In the human sacrifice scene where a naked woman is sacrificed, a blazing flame carefully covers up the direct depiction, and in the scene where a rattlesnake appears in a camper and panics, it's just a rattlesnake trying to stab it with a ski pole. . Rather than a slasher, it has an occult film feel similar to `` The Exorcist '' (73) and `` The Omen '' (76). It is a literal devilish combination of car action and the occult. There are elements of a road movie about crossing the western United States in a camper van, so you could say it's a hybrid of three genres: car action, occult, and road movie. How greedy are you?

The one that I feel is closest in structure is " Rosemary's Baby " (68). It goes without saying that this is a monumental horror film by the famous master Roman Polanski. Rosemary (Mia Farrow), a pregnant wife, moves into a New York apartment with her husband Guy (John Cassavetes). However, there are many suspicious people around her, and she wonders if they are devil worshipers. My suspicions gradually deepen. And before she knew it, she had found herself in a dead end...that's the rough outline.

In "Race with the Devil," the protagonists are exhausted both physically and mentally by the relentless harassment from a cult, and wonder if all the people they meet on their travels are devil worshipers. I was filled with suspicion. The story is about how the cult's power is much bigger than he imagined, and he finds himself in a situation from which he can't escape no matter how hard he tries.

Although there are differences in that one takes place indoors in an apartment and the other takes place outside across the United States, both are ``films that have been criticized on all fronts, with their escape routes blocked by cultists.'' If it's a closed-door drama, the horror element will inevitably increase, and if it's an outdoor drama, the action element will inevitably increase. Although the texture differs depending on the location, it actually has the same structure as `` Rosemary's Baby .''
