"Argo" synopsis

In November 1979, a major incident that shocked the entire world occurred and will remain in history. In Iran, where revolution is raging, extremists attack the American embassy and take the embassy staff hostage. Their demand was for the extradition of the former king, who had fled to the United States due to his mismanagement. Amid the chaos, six people escaped through the back door and hid in the Canadian ambassador's house, but if they were found, they would definitely be publicly executed. CIA hostage retrieval expert Tony Mendez is called in to break out of the hopeless situation. Tony's ``great idea'' is to plan a fake movie, turn the six people into film crew members who came to scout locations, and have them leave the country. John Chambers, a leading expert in special makeup who won an Academy Award for ``Planet of the Apes,'' cooperated, and in the blink of an eye, a producer and script were prepared, and a grand press conference for the sci-fi fantasy ``Argo'' was held. Ta. A Hollywood operation with a 72-hour time limit has begun, deceiving not only Iran but also the United States! However, the six people rebel against the idea that they will definitely find out, Iran realizes that there is an escapee, and in the midst of tensions, the CIA orders them to stop the operation! What will happen to the lives of the six people?

Behind the scenes is so funny, a real rescue story that seems like a lie

"Argo" won Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Editing at the 85th Academy Awards. This is the work that established Ben Affleck's reputation as a film director, even though he was on the decline as a movie star. Also, by starring in the film himself, it was an opportunity for Affleck to re-emerge as an actor.

On the other hand, ``Argo'' is also a movie that teaches us once again what it means to ``make a true story into a movie.'' First, I would like to briefly review the ``Iranian American Embassy Hostage Crisis'' on which this film is based.

In 1979, the Islamic Revolution occurred in Iran, and the pro-American Emperor Pahlavi II (also known as King Pahlavi) fled the country. However, the Iranian people, enraged by the US government's acceptance of Pahlavi II, occupied the US embassy demanding the extradition of the former king. 52 people, including embassy staff, were taken hostage.

``Argo'' depicts the rescue operation for six Americans who narrowly escaped from the embassy behind this incident. At the time, he was very serious, but the plan that the CIA devised at that time was very interesting. In order to get the six people who had been hiding in the Canadian ambassador's private residence out of Iran, he fabricated a fictitious sci-fi blockbuster movie called ``Argo'' and disguised the six people as production staff scouting locations in Iran.

In order for the strategy to be successful, the movie itself must never be revealed as a lie. So the CIA put out a full-page advertisement for the movie "Argo" and even set up a production office called "Studio Six" in Hollywood. Filmmakers who took the project seriously brought many projects to Studio Six, and even Steven Spielberg reportedly sent in scripts. A major rescue operation involving Hollywood was unfolding.

This is a true story that would make anyone think, ``This could be made into a movie!'' However, the involvement of the CIA was kept top secret at the time, so it remained unknown to the public for a long time. However, the information was later lifted, and screenwriter Chris Terrio read the article published in WIRED magazine and created a scenario. George Clooney's Smoke Productions has acquired the film rights. This is a subject that Clooney, who has a reputation for dealing with politics and the behind-the-scenes of the international stage, seems to like.
