Horror work that makes you fear your inner self
When you think of psychological horror/thrillers, the first thing that comes to mind are works by suspense master Alfred Hitchcock, such as `` Psycho '' (1960) and `` White Terror '' (1945). In this work, there are depictions of the grandmother's consciousness transferring into living people. Is this the work of something supernatural like an evil spirit, or is it the dependency within living humans that creates a pseudo-psychology of the dead person within themselves? It is important to keep it in an ambiguous position without clearly indicating it.
One of director Kiyoshi Kurosawa's masterpieces, `` CURE '' (1997), is a work that follows this lineage of depicting human madness. A detective played by Koji Yakusho lives with his mentally unstable wife and takes care of her devotedly at home, but while investigating a murder case, the detective sees a vision of her dead. It turns out. Little by little, the audience begins to realize that this detective's deep psyche seems to be that he despises his wife and wants her to die.

This work also repeatedly depicts his estrangement towards his family. The younger sister (Milly Shapiro), who has a creepy character reminiscent of Nicolas Roeg's `` The Red Shadow '' (1973), repeatedly behaves strangely no matter where she is, and intermittently cries out her tongue. He has a habit of making noises that are unpleasant to those around him. Additionally, her family has to keep an eye on her due to severe food allergies.
Many movies have portrayed families as caring for each other and willing to risk their lives to save each other in case of emergency. This is because the audience feels empathy. However, like the detective in "CURE" and the family members in this film, some viewers may be able to empathize with the fact that they secretly think that their family is a hindrance, and sometimes even wish they would die. It should be. The moment the audience empathizes with this feeling and becomes aware of the terrifying feeling within themselves, they experience true fear.
