The real-life gangster who was the model for his greatest enemy, Hyman Roth.

The most important character based on a true story is Hyman Roth, who becomes Michael's greatest threat in PART II. Ross is a big Jewish gangster who first appears in Part II, but he is clearly based on the real-life gangster Meyer Lansky.

To begin with, the Mafia was a group that only recognized Sicilian descent, and Meyer Lansky, a Polish Jew, could not become an official member no matter how much he contributed to the organization. However, he has been close friends with Lucky Luciano, a mafia mogul who is said to be one of Vito's models, since they were teenagers, and in ` `The Mobsters '' (1991), Luciano, Lansky, Bugsy Siegel, and Vito's hoarse voice It depicts the youth of a group of four young thugs named Frank Costello, who is said to be the model for the film. Although the taste of the work is different, it can be said that it is a work that echoes the past parts of ``The Godfather Part II''.

Although `` The Godfather '' depicts the strong bonds between Sicilians, in reality it did not completely exclude non-Sicilians. In particular, Lucky Luciano assassinated the bosses of the older generation who demanded that non-Sicilians such as Meyer Lansky be removed, and organized the mafia into a huge syndicate with business ties. The setting in the play, where Hyman Roth (Lansky) and Vito (Luciano) team up to engage in underground business, is also linked to real-life mafia history.

Ross, who controlled a criminal organization, lived a modest life in Miami in A Very Private Affair, was involved in the gambling business as an adviser to the Cuban government, and tried to become an Israeli citizen only to be deported to the United States - all of these episodes reflect Lansky's real life (although Lansky lived to be 80 years old).

The line that Ross says to Michael, "We're bigger than U.S. Steel," is also a reference to Lansky's famous quote, "We're bigger than General Motors." The story of The Godfather is basically fiction, but Ross is almost identical to Meyer Lansky, Vito has multiple models, and Johnny Fontaine is loosely modeled on Frank Sinatra. It's on a different level.

Coppola also included Hyman Roth in the younger Vito's part. Vito's gang is known to consist of Clemenza, Tessio, and Jenko, but there is actually a fifth member, who is quite small. This is Ross in his younger days. Coppola also filmed the scene where Vito and Ross meet, but it was cut from the finished film, so it's a bit difficult to recognize Ross in past parts. However, if you look at the deleted scenes, you will see that Ross's real name was ``Suchawski'', which was a shortened version of Lansky's real name ``Sczawlanski''. It was also revealed that he received the nickname "Ross" from Arnold Rothstein, a senior Jewish gangster.
