A sci-fi horror action movie that holds its own even after more than 30 years!

In order to write this article, I rewatched Aliens (Complete Edition) for the first time in a while, and I was captivated by the quality of the movie, which was hard to believe for a movie made over 30 years ago. I was also honestly surprised to see glimpses of director James Cameron's later films throughout this film.

"Aliens" was released in theaters in 1986. This was over 30 years ago. I think the first time I saw this work was on the 1988 New Year's Day program ``TBS New Year Special Road Show''. This work belongs to the genre of "SF horror action", which can be said to be a genre in which the quality is inevitably proportional to the evolution of cinematography technology and special effects. Despite this, the ``SF horror action'' I watched on TV as a child now, 30 years later, has become even more impactful, powerful, and of overwhelming quality.

To give one example, I was surprised at how realistic the depiction of the famous Power Loader (the work-use powered suit that the protagonist The Talented Mr. Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, rides in) was, without even a trace of cheapness. Although it is the opposite in terms of the film's release chronology, we had already seen a depiction of the Power Loader (AMP suit) in another Cameron film, Avatar (2009), so we should have a fairly discerning eye for such depictions. Nevertheless, from its appearance at the beginning of the film to its deadly battle with the Alien Queen at the end, we are simply blown away by the coolness and power of the machine, as well as its realism.

Of course, there are some shots in the work that make it clear that special effects were used. But that's not a big problem. It's not that it doesn't matter, it's that I'm so engrossed in the movie that it doesn't bother me. In the case of movies in this genre, I sometimes find myself laughing when I notice the ``roughness'' of the special effects, but I was overwhelmed by Cameron's bold and detailed direction and his worldview, and I was surprised to see such ``roughness.'' There is absolutely no time to worry about ``.
