Dalton Trumbo and Ian McClellan Hunter

Also accompanying him were fellow liberal actors Gregory Peck and Eddie Albert. What is noteworthy is the script that Wyler brought with him. The screenplay, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Story (a category that existed until the 1957 Academy Awards), was written in a hearing by the U.S. House of Representatives Un-American Activities Committee, in which the main character refused to testify when asked whether he was a member of the Communist Party. It was written by Dalton Trumbo, one of the "Hollywood Ten".

However, for the reasons mentioned above, Trumbo was not allowed to write the script using his real name, and instead used the name of Ian McClellan Hunter, a friend in the same industry who was acting as a front for Trumbo at the time. It was written in the screenwriter column. Of course, Wyler was aware of this behind-the-scenes situation. Perhaps what he wanted to achieve in Rome more than anything else was the secret salvation of a talented playwright.

In fact, there is a movie that focuses on "fronts" like hunters. Its name is simply `` Woody Allen's The Front '' (76). There are also several works that capture the atmosphere of 1950s Hollywood, which was rocked by the Red Scare, such as `` Moment of The Truth '' (1991) and `` Majestic '' (2001).
