``Gattaca'' Destiny transcends genes. A masterpiece science fiction filled with sadness

The originator of “cry science fiction”

Andrew Niccol, who worked on "Gattaca," is a former commercial director, and this is his feature directorial debut. The main cast members are Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman (now divorced), who got married after this movie, and Jude Law before his big break. Ethan and Uma's daughter Maya Hawke appeared in Season 3 of the Netflix drama " Stranger Things " which began streaming on July 4, 2019, and " Once Upon a Time in Hollywood " (2019). It makes you feel the passage of time, 22 years since the movie was released in the United States.

The story, which eliminated the action that was the main component of SF movies and focused on suffering and conflict, reached a demographic that did not like SF movies, and as a result created an opportunity to expand the boundaries of the genre. Although there may have been some parts that dealt with the trending word ``DNA manipulation,'' what was decisive was that it depicted the ``human heart,'' which remains unchanged through the ages.

The plot of this work, when simplified, is similar to that of a sports movie. He makes up for his lack of ability with hard work and aims to join the selection team...Isn't it just like a classic Jump manga? However, the situation faced by the film's main character, Vincent (Ethan Hawke), is even harsher. From the moment they were born, they were determined to be worthless, and instead of being recognized, their entrance was blocked from the beginning. How many times have I cursed the world? I wonder how much time I spent in despair. The story of such a young man risking his life to rebel against the world is a story that evokes passionate emotion even though the story is told in a quiet manner.
