Amazing casting that no one expected

`` Close Encounters of the Third Kind '' is a science fiction masterpiece that Spielberg wrote just as he was approaching his 30th birthday. Up until now, he has been shifting his viewpoints more dynamically, from battles on land (" Clash! ") to battles at sea (" Jaws "), but now he finally breaks through the sky and takes flight on the wings of his imagination to the other side. It is no exaggeration to say that this is the ultimate challenge. The accomplishments of this work are so great that even looking back on it now, it is clear that there was an incredible explosion of imagination, and that there were many unprecedented efforts in terms of technology.

I'm not old enough to watch this movie in theaters in real time, so I watched it on TV when I was in junior high school. At that time, I was just excited about the magic of SFX and the development of the story, and I didn't have the time to worry about the details. But now, when I watch it as an adult, I am suddenly reminded of many things. One of these is the presence of film director François Truffaut (1932-84), who appears as an actor in this film. When I was in junior high school, I had no idea who he was, but once I was exposed to his masterpieces, including `` The 400 Blows '' (59) and `` A Night in America '' (73), I started writing `` Returning to ``Close Encounters of the Third Kind,'' I can't help but be astonished by the casting of this huge figure.

At that time, it must have been a special feat that only Spielberg could have dreamed up for Hollywood to ask this master of the Nouvelle Vague to appear in the film. Truffaut passed away in 1984, so we can't hear his true intentions, but according to Spielberg, his desire to invite Truffaut to this film was sparked by `` The Wild Boy .'' (70) was the trigger. Truffaut not only directed this film, but also starred in it. He plays the role of a doctor who watches to see if a boy, who was abandoned in the jungle as a baby and grew up like an animal, will ever develop any humanity. Seeing the doctor's speaking style and benevolent gaze, Spielberg was deeply moved, and as he was preparing to produce Close Encounters of the Close Encounters of the Third Kind, he decided that he wanted him to play the role. It is said that

However, what once again makes me realize just how great Spielberg is is the way he approached the casting. Rather than just making an enthusiastic offer, he first says, ``I'll send you the script, so please read it.'' There was no way Truffaut, who is not only a director and screenwriter but also a film critic, could turn down this once-in-a-lifetime Being There to unravel the script for Spielberg's film. That's how the first Contact was made, dressed in a manner that aroused his curiosity, and as expected, three days after receiving the script, he received a call saying, ``Please send over the costume staff right away.'' In other words, it was a word that meant a willingness to accept the love letter.

For Truffaut, seeing the script probably sparked his curiosity to participate in the filming and see for himself how it was brought to life. Spielberg expected that much, and Truffaut dared to accept the invitation after knowing what he was aiming for. I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't control my heartbeat just by imagining the "behind-the-scenes script" envisioned by the two strategists.

And finally, the time was up. Truffaut, who visited the United States, reportedly told Spielberg on the first day of filming, ``I'm participating as an actor. Therefore, I will follow your every word.'' He allowed himself to dedicate his heart and soul to Spielberg's work, not just as a director or critic, but as an actor.
