“The Post” Synopsis
In 1971, the Vietnam War reached a quagmire, and anti-war sentiment was growing in the United States. The Department of Defense had created documents to objectively investigate and analyze the Vietnam War, but as the war dragged on, the number of documents had ballooned to 7,000 documents. One day, the document was leaked and the New York Times scooped some of its contents. Beaten by rival paper the New York Times, Katharine Graham, the head of the Washington Post and the first female publisher in the history of a major American newspaper, and editor-in-chief Ben Bradlee independently obtained the remaining documents and published the entire story. I am working hard to make it public. They were driven by a desire to tell The Truth. However, it was clear that President Nixon would use any means necessary to suppress the article. Should he really write an article about making the government his enemy? The time to make a decision that puts freedom of the press and beliefs on the line is drawing near.

``Pentagon Papers'' was produced at Vista, which is unusual for Spielberg in recent years.

Those in the audience who saw ``Pentagon Papers'' and are especially familiar with Steven Spielberg's work must have wondered, ``What?'' That's because the aspect ratio (angle of view) of this film was Vista size, which was 1:1.85.

Since `` Munich '' (2005), which depicts the Mossad's retaliation in the wake of the Munich Olympics terrorist attacks, Spielberg has directed eight films, including his latest film ` `Ready Player One '' (2018), all in landscape widescreen ( 1:2.35~1:2.39). However, ``Pentagon Papers'' deviates from this rule and is filmed in Vista.

Spielberg originally loved widescreen.

Spielberg's preference for aspect ratios has been evident since the beginning of his career, and he has been using widescreen since his first commercial feature, `` Duel '' (1974). This wide-spread format makes each work powerful, such as the early representative titles `` Jaws '' (1975) and `` Close Encounters of the Third Kind '' (1977).

The director himself later spoke about this commitment to widescreen. ``I like wide shots, and I make my films by sprinkling information into every corner of the screen. However, when it's broadcast on TV, the left and right sides of the screen are cut off. That's the most unacceptable thing for a movie director to do.''
