The cast and staff all break out

This life is not yours from the moment you are born.

I can't even give you sadness.

All emotions are outside the story.

``Never Let Me Go'' (2010) is a movie with a mysterious fate. The film was released in the United States in 2010 and in Japan on March 26, 2011. It was (quietly) released at the same time as ` `The Fighter '' (10) and `` Somewhere '' (10). The production cost was estimated to be $15 million, but the worldwide box office revenue was approximately $9.45 million (see Box Office Mojo). If you just look at the numbers, it's clearly in the red.

Adapted from the book by Kazuo Ishiguro, which was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, this film co-stars Carrie Mulligan, Andrew Garfield, and Keira Knightley. Nowadays, it has a great cast, but at the time it was not considered a ``must-see'' for movie fans, either in Japan or around the world. The attention level is also reflected in box office results. However, this work will continue to grow over a long period of time after its release.

Carrie, who was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for `` Portrait of a 17 Year Old '' (2009), went on to star in `` Drive '' (2011), ` `Shame' ' (11), and `` The Great Gatsby '' (13). He appeared on the show and made a big leap forward. Andrew gained worldwide popularity with `` The Social Network '' (10) and `` The Amazing Spider-Man '' (12-14). Although Keira was already well-known for her roles in the Pirates of the Caribbean series (2003-17), she had a strong image of costume play (historical dramas) such as Pride and Prejudice (2005) and Atonement (2007). . However, after completing this work, he developed a new charm when he played the role of a musician in `` Begin Again '' (13).

"Never Let Me Go" Preview

It's not just the main three. Great actress Charlotte Rampling received her first Academy Award nomination for `` Ripples '' (2015), Sally Hawkins received her first Academy Award nomination for ` `Blue Jasmine '' (13), and most importantly, `` The Shape of Water '' (17). be. Alex Garland, who served as writer and executive producer, made his directorial debut with Ex Machina (2015), which received rave reviews. The original author, Kazuo Ishiguro, who was also the executive producer of the movie ``Never Let Me Go'', accomplished the feat of winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2017.

The developments in Japan are also interesting. Following the movie, it was made into a stage play by Yukio Ninagawa in 2014, and a TV drama in 2016. Due to the existence of these, many people may have learned about the existence of the movie version later.

This film is part of FOX Searchlight's 2010 lineup, which is the same as `` Black Swan '' (10) and `` 127 Hours '' (10), which won the Academy Awards, and was originally perfect in terms of ``quality assurance.'' Thanks to the success of everyone involved, the film has grown from a ``good work that movie buffs and literature buffs know'' to a ``monumental masterpiece.''
