Recommended movies starring Timothée Chalamet (2017~2018)

3. Call Me by Your Name(2017) Director: Luca Guadagnino 132 minutes

It goes without saying that this is Chalamet's masterpiece. Even the eyelashes fluttering in the wind are so integrated into the story that it's easy to say they are an essential element of the work.

The story is set in northern Italy in the 1980s. 17-year-old Elio (Timothée Chalamet) begins to feel emotions he has never felt before as he interacts with 24-year-old Oliver (Armie Hammer), who comes to help his father, a university professor. Eventually, he realizes that this uncontrollable feeling is true "love".

Chalamet's unique brilliance was praised worldwide, and he was nominated for the 90th Academy Award for Best Actor along with such great actors as Gary Oldman, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Denzel Washington. It was also a memorable moment for Chalamet to gain international popularity.

"Call Me by Your Name" is a film adaptation of the original novel up to the middle, and a sequel depicting the second half is planned.

4. "Hot Summer Nights" (2017) Director: Elijah Bynum 120 minutes

A production from Studio A24, the studio behind "Moonlight." Set in the 90s, this crime drama about a shy boy who visits a seaside resort and transforms into a dangerous "bad guy" is a vivid depiction of this coming-of-age story.

Chalamet, the star of the film, energetically portrays a dull young man who becomes a drug dealer, becomes obsessed with thrills and desires, and falls into a corner from which there is no turning back. The filming itself seems to have been done before "Call Me by Your Name," but it vividly shows the "danger" that could be called "complete immaturity."

As his actions escalate, you should pay attention to the "changes" in Chalamet, whose fashion and the atmosphere he wears are clearly affected. The elaborate structure, in which the comedy suddenly develops into suspense, and the outstanding visual sense also give a sense of possibility.

5. Lady Bird(2017) Director: Greta Gerwig 95 minutes

A youth comedy directed by actress Greta Gerwig, who also starred in "Frances Ha" (2012). It has been met with rave reviews from critics and set a new record on the American review site Rotten Tomatoes.

Christine (Saoirse Ronan) is a high school girl living in the countryside of Sacramento, USA. Dreaming of a life in the city, her "unlovely but earnest" daily life is depicted in a way that is sometimes humorous, but also full of love and nostalgia.

Chalamet shows off his well-coordinated teamwork with his buddies Ronan and Gerwig in this film. He plays a popular guy who appears in front of Christine, but he has strange obsessions everywhere and the more he tries to look cool, the more he flops.

Lucas Hedges from "Manchester by the Sea" also appears in the film, making for a fun performance from a talented group of young actors.

6. "Beautiful Boy" (2018) Director: Felix van Groeningen 121 min.

This shocking true story drama sees Chalamet immerse himself in the role as a young man suffering from severe drug addiction.

The film revolves around the relationship with the father, played by Steve Carell, and depicts, in soft yet poignant images, the father's desire to rehabilitate his son and the son's succumbing to his illness despite being aware of the father's love.

Chalamet was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 76th Golden Globe Awards for his stunning realistic portrayal of a naive son who feels guilty but becomes addicted to both drugs and his father.

In many of his works, Chalamet has sensitively portrayed the "mistakes" made possible by youth, but the persuasiveness of the "loss of self-control" he displays in this film stands out above the rest.
