Recommended movies starring Timothée Chalamet (2019)

7. A Rainy Day in New York(2019) Director: Woody Allen 95 minutes

The film is directed by Woody Allen and stars Elle Fanning, Selena Gomez, and Jude Law, but its release has been put on hold for a long time due to the MeToo issue. It is scheduled to be released in Japan this summer.

A young couple who come to New York find themselves at the mercy of a group of eccentric characters as they go their separate ways. This is a light-hearted depiction of a love affair, with witty dialogue typical of director Allen and modern landscape depictions.

Chalamet humorously plays the protagonist, who is somewhat pathetic and has a typical Allen feel, and the film also has a slightly more mature atmosphere than his previous works.

8. The King (2019) Director: David Michôd 140 minutes

Chalamet takes on a bold historical drama in this Netflix original film based on the play by William Shakespeare.

A free-spirited heir to the throne ascends to the throne as "Henry V" at a young age. The film depicts how he accepts his brutal fate and becomes "worthy of the king" in both body and mind, along with powerful battle scenes. Chalamet's Henry V's "awakening" is a masterpiece, as he prepares for "madness" in order to maintain "peace" during the war.

Joel Edgerton, Robert Pattinson, Ben Mendelsohn, Sean Harris, and Lily-Rose Depp join forces to create a film directed by David Michôd, who made his shocking feature film debut with Animal Kingdom (2010).

9. Little Women (2019) Director: Greta Gerwig 135 minutes

This literary drama is a collaboration between Gerwig, director of "Lady Bird," and Saoirse Ronan. Based on the classic book "Little Women," it is a light-hearted adaptation that incorporates plenty of modern sensibilities, such as "women's independence."

The film takes a warm look at the fate of four sisters who live apart from their father in America in the 1860s and their mother. The sisters are played by Emma Watson as the eldest, Ronan as the second, Eliza Scanlen who left a strong impression as the younger sister of the protagonist played by Amy Adams in the TV drama "KIZU", and Florence Pugh from "Midsommar" (2019) as the fourth. The mother is played by Laura Dern and the aunt is played by Meryl Streep.

Chalamet plays the role of a wealthy heir who is in love with the second daughter but is unable to make her wish come true. He is a good friend who always watches over the four sisters, and he is full of charm. In the scene where he earnestly expresses his love for the second daughter, his serious gaze brings tears to the viewers' eyes.

The film is scheduled to be released in Japan later this year.
