The plot is unusually simple for Fincher, with a battle between a trio of robbers who break into a mansion and a mother and daughter who escape into a secret room.
"The lead role was changed from Nicole Kidman to Jodie Foster." → "We had to rush the shoot after Jodie Foster's pregnancy was discovered." → "However, the director of photography, Darius Khondji, was too insistent, so the filming was delayed. After overcoming a number of problems, such as ``The film is not progressing well'' and ``I had no choice but to change the director of photography,'' the film was made into a first-class suspense film. A group drama about the Zodiac Incident, an actual unsolved serial murder case that occurred in the late 1960s, in which three men strive to find the truth. Who is Zodiac? As a mystery about finding the culprit, it's actually rather bland. Fincher's winning strategy was to construct the film as a cold-hearted human drama in which men become obsessed with finding the culprit, but instead become trapped in madness.
It's interesting that the lead actors, Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert Downey Jr., are all members of the Marvel movie group for some reason.
