5. "Honeyland" (19) Director: Ljubo Stefanov Tamara Kotevska

This is the film that defined the essence of NEON = nature documentary. It became the first film in history to be nominated for both Best Documentary Feature and Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards. It won three awards at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and won the 54th National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Documentary.

The setting of this work is a remote area of North Macedonia. In a land without electricity or running water, a woman is a natural beekeeper who sticks to old-fashioned methods and the credo of ``taking only half of the crop.'' Focusing on her humble yet prosperous days, the story begins with the changes that occur after a family visits there, and what is the happy relationship between nature and humans? The theme... The conflict between the desire to escape from a life of poverty and the desire to protect the environment and pass on sustainable resources to the next generation is depicted in a subtle but poignant way.

The production team spent about three years researching and weaving together stories of ``events happening somewhere around the world'' that are more dramatic than fiction and are sure to move the hearts of viewers.

By the way, in 2019 NEON released documentaries such as `` Apollo 11 Complete Edition '' and `` Big Little Farm: How to Create an Ideal Life '' one after another.

6. “Monos” (19) Director: Alejandro Landes

An intense survival drama that won the Special Jury Prize in the World Cinema Drama category at the 35th Sundance Film Festival. Eight boys and girls live in the mountains of South America. They were members of a guerrilla organization called "Apes"... They were monitoring an American female hostage known as ``Doctor,'' but an incident causes a rift among the group, and their fates are affected.

Set against the backdrop of the Colombian civil war, this film is a drama with breathtaking visual beauty, the horror of innocent young boys and girls becoming tainted with madness, and each of them choosing the ``life'' they want to lead. The story progresses with surprising enthusiasm as these elements intertwine in a ferocious manner.

Seven of the eight cast members have no acting experience. Moises Arias, known for his role in ``Kings of Summer'' (2013), directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who also directed ``Kong: Skull Island '' (2017), is the only one with acting experience. He was selected after enduring a rigorous training-style audition. One of NEON's greatest strengths is that it has a wide range of films from all over the world, including `` Border '' and `` Honeyland: Eternal Valley .''
