The horror film `` Halloween '' was produced in 1978 and was a huge hit not only in the United States but also around the world, despite being a low-budget film. Michael Myers, a serial killer known as the Boogeyman, appears on Halloween night in the fictional American city of Haddonfield. This film depicts the desperate survival story of high school girl Laurie Strode, who tries to escape from this brutal act. Due to its high quality, it received enthusiastic support from audiences, and not only was it made into a series, but it also created a boom in slasher horror, including `` Friday the 13th' '. It is, so to speak, a legendary horror masterpiece.

In 2018, 40 years after the original version was released, a new sequel ` `Halloween '' will be produced. Michael escapes from a psychiatric hospital for serious criminals and returns to Halloween for the first time in 40 years. The elderly Laurie, who had foreseen this situation, fought against this threat with her daughter and granddaughter, even though the people around her treated her as a freak. The film once again caused a sensation and became a huge hit, breaking box office records for horror films.

Director David Gordon Green, who created this masterpiece sequel with original producer John Carpenter as executive producer and composer, envisioned a trilogy starting with this film. The second installment of 2021, `` Halloween KILLS ,'' created an ambitious story that touches on Michael's relationship with a city in panic, once again wowing fans. And now comes the final volume, ``Halloween THE END.'' What was director Green trying to accomplish with this trilogy? I spoke remotely.

Besides “Halloween”, what is another Carpenter work that you were conscious of?

Q: The dramas are consistent, but have different colors, such as 2018's " Halloween ", " Halloween KILLS ", and the latest work, "Halloween THE END". What differences did you give each?

Green: Each of these trilogies explores the story of Halloween from a different angle. The first work recreated the characters drawn in Carpenter's original version and put them into a horror framework. On the other hand, `` Halloween KILLS '' focused on action as well as horror. And in ``Halloween THE END,'' although it is a horror film, I explored the love story that occurs there.

Q: I understand that you have been in close contact with Carpenter, who served as executive producer, from the beginning and have had discussions with him, but what kind of things did you discuss with him regarding ``Halloween THE END''?

Green: Of course I love Carpenter's work `` Halloween ,'' but I'm just as much of a fan of `` Christine .'' This time, I wanted to incorporate elements from that movie, so I talked to him during the early stages of writing the script. The theme is the fightback of the marginalized. He seemed honored by my approach and was very happy.

Q: Carpenter is also involved in music, what kind of things did you pay attention to in that regard?

Green: The most important thing was when to use the familiar Halloween theme. That song that Carpenter composed for 1978's `` Halloween '' has a powerful tone and a unique chord progression, and I love it. That main theme is engraved in the hearts of many people as an independent song. I'm also a fan, so I had to be careful when that song was played. So Carpenter advised me when to use the new arrangement of the song. The use of that song was a big key to making this movie work.
