“The Grinch” reminds me of “The Addams Family”
Illumination Entertainment, known for its yellow minions, will reportedly release `` The Grinch ,'' based on Dr. Seuss's picture book, this fall.
The story is about a green monster who tries to ruin Christmas, and was the inspiration for Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993). The Grinch tries to steal Christmas out of malice, while Jack the Skeleton tries to imitate Christmas out of admiration and goodwill, which is an interesting arrangement.
Speaking of Illumination and Tim Burton, I remember that there were rumors that they would be adapting Charles Addams' comic strip ``The Addams Family'' into a stop-motion animation.
Speaking of " The Addams Family ," we are most familiar with the two-part live-action film version (1991 and 1993) directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. This is the story of an eccentric family who live in a house that is almost a haunted house, have a unique set of values that are not bound by the morals of society, and are on the verge of bad taste, and are the dream of goths.
The original work is a one-panel comic by Charles Addams, a cartoonist and illustrator who worked for magazines such as The New Yorker. I've seen the movie version, and even before I saw the movie, I had an image of the Honda The Martian commercial, so when I think of the Addams family, I immediately think of Anjelica Huston's wife Morticia, but the original story... I was quite shocked to learn about the light lines and tasteful watercolors of the manga, and the comical and cute facial expressions of the characters that stood out in the eerie worldview.
I was thrilled when I heard that Tim Burton was going to make it into an animation (and in stop motion) with a touch of the original work. It goes without saying that Burton's style goes well with ``The Addams Family,'' and stop motion is Burton's best.
However, the plan seems to have fallen by the wayside. In the meantime, Burton will be filming Disney's Dumbo (tentatively scheduled for 2019). In retrospect, the pairing of Burton and Adams was so perfect that there was no surprise, or perhaps there was no need for the collaboration. The affinity between them is too high, and their individuality is so well-established that I think it would be fine for them to remain separate. In that case, you might be more interested in how Burton arranges the story of the little elephant with big ears. Of course, I would be happy if Burton's version of ``The Addams Family'' materialized.
