“Falling in Love” synopsis

Manhattan is lively on Christmas Eve. Frank, an architectural engineer, and Molly, a graphic designer, meet at a bookstore where they are shopping for books to give to their partners. We meet again a while later on the commuter train. Was this chance encounter a fateful encounter? The ending that comes to these two people who gradually become attracted to each other is...

What happens when married people fall in love? Both their lives are destroyed and they both end up paying a huge price. If this over-written story were to be repeated with mediocre direction and acting, it would simply be an adulterous drama that would capture the audience's curiosity for a moment and then end up in the movie closet.

``Falling in Love'' (1984) is a rare work in this genre that has escaped such a fate. There is no doubt that the theme of the setting is infidelity, but the combination of Michael Christopher's script, which carefully transcribes human psychology, and Uhl Grosbard's direction, which includes plenty of New York location shots, makes it a great movie for adults. It has become a film that will be loved by movie fans for a long time.

“Falling in Love” preview

In 1985, when the movie was released, a drama inspired by it, ``Friday's Wives III : Falling in Love,'' was aired and received high ratings. The theme song ``Falling in Love in Love'' was also a big hit, and the same commuter train scene as in the movie was recreated in the play, which became a hot topic.

A very simple story

The story is quite simple. Fifth Avenue in New York is crowded on Christmas Eve. Frank (Robert De Niro) and Molly (Meryl Streep) run into each other near the exit of a bookstore and end up returning home with the books they bought mixed up. Coincidentally, the two of them were riding the same train to work at a company in Manhattan, so they inevitably met again, sat next to each other on the train, went to work, and chatted about their respective families at a cafe at the station, and quickly became close friends. To go.

Perhaps they both sensed a sense of peace and excitement in the other that they couldn't get from their husbands and wives. One day, when her father is in a hospital bed and his life is in danger, Molly immediately contacts Frank instead of her husband. Horrified by such a relationship, Molly decides not to see him again and tells Frank, but Frank asks her to meet him at Grand Central Station as usual.

However, he is slow at work and ends up being late for his appointment. Just when he was about to give up, a smiling Molly appeared in front of him.
