The source is Ultraman! ?

Good aliens from outer space fight against bad ones. In Japan, many people will think of the first episode of Ultraman. Ultraman turns into a sphere and chases Bemular, but accidentally kills Science Special Search Party member Hayata. Regretting his death, Ultraman gives his own life to protect the Earth together with Hayata.

Furthermore, the manga "Parasyte," which was also made into a film, and the Spider-Man spin-off " Venom " (2018) also have a structure in which a parasitic life form from outer space and the infected human join forces to fight against "bad guys" of their own species.

"Venom" preview

These stories are said to be based on the 1950 novel " Two Billion Needles " written by science fiction writer Hal Clement.

Two spaceships crash in the South Pacific. On one ship is an alien investigator. On the other is an alien criminal. Both are parasitic lifeforms that require a host, and the investigator parasitizes a young boy while searching for the criminal alien who has presumably parasitized someone on Earth. The suspects are all 2 billion people on Earth (the total population of the Earth in the 1950s). "2 Billion Needles" is a story where the protagonist is caught in a "needle in a haystack."

"The Hidden" not only borrows the main elements of "a parasitic creature from outer space" and "it is unclear who it is parasitizing," but also the setting that "because it is an alien, it has no common sense on Earth" from "2 Billion Needles."

Gallagher likes the beer he tries for the first time, but gets drunk and is given an Alka-Seltzer (a fizzy drink often seen in American movies that you put in water and drink), but he takes a bite and is told off. At the next scene, he is given an aspirin, but this time he sinks it into a glass of water. This is a fun depiction of the "cultural gap."
