“Time Bandits” synopsis
One night in the nursery room of an 11-year-old boy, Kevin, a strange phenomenon occurs: a knight suddenly appears through the wall, then disappears through the wall again. Kevin tells his parents about this, but they don't believe him at all. As I waited late at night with my instant camera and flashlight to take photos of the evidence, six dirty and impudent dwarfs appeared.
The dwarfs said that they were serving the Creator of all things, but one day they finally got fed up with their work and stole from the Creator a map with a time hole that would allow them to travel through time and space at will. It is said that he was planning to spend his days plundering various worlds. At that time, the creator, furious at having the map stolen, comes chasing after him as a giant face, and Kevin is forced to run away with the dwarfs without understanding why.
Teleported to Italy in 1796, the group happened to run into Napoleon Bonaparte, who was occupying the city. Napoleon, who had an inferiority complex due to his short stature, takes great delight in Kevin and the dwarfs and invites them to dinner, even though they are smaller than him. The dwarfs invited to the banquet, when Napoleon is in a good mood and gets drunk, steal valuable things from everyone. The group then appears in Sherwood Forest and sees a nobleman being attacked by bandits. However, there was someone who was keeping an eye on the situation. The Demon King was planning to take control of the world by using this time hole. And the Demon King plots to steal the map from the group.
Meanwhile, Kevin is separated from the dwarfs and left alone in the Greek desert, where he helps King Agamemnon who is struggling with a man wearing a beast mask. Kevin was praised for his achievements and was about to be adopted by Kevin, but then a dwarf comes and disappears with him. After that, he appears on the Titanic just before it sinks, and when he is picked up by a sailing ship, he discovers that it is a giant's hat.At the end of his reckless adventure, he ends up in the castle of the Demon King.
Having been trapped and robbed of the map, the group calls in helpers from various worlds, such as archers, knights, and gunmen, but they are still defeated by the powerful demon lord. Just when the situation is in jeopardy, the creator appears... What will be the fate of Kevin and the dwarfs...! ?

Don't waver, don't compromise, and don't forget your childhood. Terry Gilliam, a treasure in the movie world
Terry Gilliam's movies always thrill us. This isn't about the quality of the movie or how good it is from a critical standpoint. In a way that cannot be measured by such a yardstick, he has consistently remained unique over the past few decades, refusing to make easy compromises in this era of commercialism, and focusing solely on what he finds interesting. I've been pursuing it.
This is what he says about his filmmaking:
``When I make a movie, I always feel like a child again. My heart is pounding, and I don't know where it's going. All my movies are like that. You're aiming for a certain point, but somewhere along the way, you start going astray. .In the end, you reach your destination, but the process to get there is messy and full of ups and downs.Perhaps you have a stronger desire than anyone else to go beyond your own and the audience's expectations.'' (``Time Bandits” from the interview recorded on the DVD)

Perhaps there is a way to be more flexible, make compromises, and adapt to the situation. But then Gilliam would no longer be Gilliam. He is the complete opposite of flexibility and adaptability, and he never deceives himself and continues to fight to create something interesting. In that sense, I don't think there's any other film director who doesn't disappoint as much as he does.
