"Scarface" created by America's leading filmmakers

The idea for ``Scarface'' originally began after producer Martin Bregman saw `` The Face of the Underworld '' (32) on late-night television. Bregman was so moved by Howard Hawks' masterpiece film noir based on Al Capone that he decided to remake it. Keeping in mind that Al Pacino, who has shown impressive performances in numerous crime movies such as `` The Godfather '' (1972), `` Serpico '' (1973), and ``Afternoon of Dog Day Afternoon '' (1975), will star in the film. A remake project begins.

Bregman named Brian De Palma as manager. He is the ``King of Cult Movies'', having worked on strong films such as ``Phantom of Paradise '' (1974) and `` Carrie '' (1976). De Palma enthusiastically wrote up the scenario, but he was unable to come up with something that Bregman was satisfied with, and he quit halfway through the project. Veteran Sidney Lumet, who previously worked with Al Pacino on ``Serpico'' and ``Dog Day Afternoon,'' has been brought in as the new director.

Lumet proposed reimagining a classic gangster movie based on Al Capone as a modern story about a man consumed by cocaine. Oliver Stone, who himself was a cocaine addict, was chosen to write the script. Speaking of Oliver Stone, he is such a master that he later won the Academy Award for Best Director twice for `` Platoon '' (1986) and `` Born on the Fourth of July '' (1989).

However, the script written by Oliver Stone was far too rich in blood and violence, contrary to Sidney Lumet's wishes. Lumet firmly declined to be the manager, and Brian De Palma was once again given the reins.

``Scarface'' was created by America's leading filmmakers, Brian De Palma, Sidney Lumet, and Oliver Stone.
