"The Jerry Maguire" is a masterpiece filled with "love and trust" by Cameron Crowe, the extremely pure film director.

Thus begins the story of Jerry's search and struggle after becoming known as a "LOOSER," but first of all, the two leading actors are incredibly young!

Tom Cruise, born in 1962 (winner of the 54th Golden Globe Award for Best Actor), began the Mission: Impossible series in 1996, the same year as this film. He would eventually become a superhuman action star rivaling Jackie Chan, but at this time he was still in his 30s and extending his youthful stardom. His orthodox good looks with a lovely, slightly cheeky smile are dazzling.

Renee Zellweger, born in 1969, made her big break in this film, in which she played opposite Tom Cruise. Her life-size, friendly character led to her starring role in Bridget Jones's Diary (2001, directed by Sharon Maguire). However, after that, she went through a turbulent and erratic life, and returned after a few years' hiatus. Her spectacular performance in the Judy Garland biopic Judy (2019, directed by Rupert Goold) earned her the 92nd Academy Award for Best Actress. Her "life-size" personality is no longer a given, and she has made a comeback as a kind of superhuman.

It's great to see the fresh ensemble of these two Big stars, but the powerful performance of Cuba Gooding Jr., born in 1968, is even more nostalgic. He plays the role of Rod, an American football player who is the only one of Jerry's remaining clients who has become independent.

Although Rod calls himself a "superstar," he is actually a mid-level player who is not very impressive compared to his abilities and is not well received by the media. Gooding Jr. delivers a brilliant performance that shows a glimpse of the shadow of a "loser" who cannot become a top player and the kindness of a loving family man, amid his cheerful and high-spirited personality, and won him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 69th Academy Awards.

Gooding Jr. was at the peak of his career when this film was released. When news broke that he had been arrested on suspicion of groping a woman's breast while intoxicated at a bar in New York City in June 2019, I was painfully reminded of the cruelty of the passage of time.
