"Blinded by the Light" synopsis
Javed is a 16-year-old Pakistani boy living in the small town of Luton, England. After finishing his summer part-time job, he rides his bike while listening to the popular Pet Shop Boys on his Sony Walkman, and will start high school this September. Matt, a childhood friend who shares the same birthday as her, has found a lover and is enjoying a fulfilling youth every day. However, Javed was growing depressed due to his loneliness. He is desperate to escape the prejudice against immigrants from the conservative townspeople and the traditions and rules of his Pakistani family. In particular, she feels a strong internal repulsion from her father, Malik, who brandishes old customs. Although Javed writes poems that reflect, in his own way, the times shaken by racial discrimination, economic problems, and political instability, he has yet to find his true words. But one day, his world begins to change 180 degrees when he encounters Bruce Springsteen's music that completely dispels all his worries.

A unique youth film where the lyrics drive the main character.
In 1987, Javed, a boy living in a provincial town in southern England, listens to Bruce Springsteen for the first time on the recommendation of a friend. A shock like being struck by lightning. Javed, the son of Pakistani immigrants who are not wealthy, uses Springsteen's lyrics to free his thoughts and choose a life that is not influenced by the values imposed by his father and society.
The original title is "BLINDED BY THE LIGHT". The title is taken from legendary American rock singer Bruce Springsteen's debut album, ``BLINDED BY THE LIGHT'' from ``Greetings from Asbury Park '' (1973). Springsteen's lyrics express the sadness of depressed people in local cities and people who have been pushed to the margins of society. The coming-of-age story of how his lyrics shake up the life of a boy and eventually change the people around him is embarrassingly fresh, and has the neat and high quality of a youth film.
Bruce Springsteen “BLINDED BY THE LIGHT”
When it comes to Bildungsroman about a dull boy living in a local city, there have been many excellent works in the past, but this one stands out from the rest. The reason for this is probably because the production puts Springsteen's lyrics to the forefront, and it connects perfectly with the theme.
The lyrics of Springsteen's songs play throughout the film, accelerating the story while synchronizing with the protagonist Javed's feelings and inviting the audience into the protagonist's inner world. This can be said to be a common technique in movies with music as the theme, but in this film, by incorporating a never-before-seen direction, the film succeeds in creating a striking impression.
