The theme of "solitude" underlying the director's work

In her directorial debut, ` `The Virgin Suicides '' (1999), director Sofia Coppola depicts the shocking theme of ``a young girl's suicide'' in a bright world filled with sunlight. The discrepancy between the bloody "death" and the poetic world reflected on the screen - this is the reason why her works have been described as "girly movies", but since her early works Sophia's "way of expressing loneliness" has been remarkable. It stood out.

In the follow-up, `` Lost in Translation '' (2003), the way he deals with ``loneliness'' deepens. The story describes the loneliness of a man and woman who feel left behind in a different space called Tokyo, and the ``gratitude of the encounter'' that feels like a spring at the end of their wanderings.

In `` Marie Antoinette '' (2006), a historical drama, she takes advantage of the cruel endings that we know as ``guillotine'' and ``execution'' to portray a free-spirited heroine in a pop style. However, although the Arrival that ``girls are the strongest'' was certainly felt, there was still loneliness and anxiety swirling underneath.

`` The Bling Ring '' (2013), which was produced after this work, also depicts a boy and girl who sneak into the mansions of celebrities and steal money and goods. The children who commit crimes without feeling any sense of guilt symbolize the danger of the ``girlhood'' that Sophia continues to pursue, but the ``ethical values'' that they unconsciously embody "Lack of Emotion" and "Lack of Emotion" can be seen as an escape from a feeling of loneliness without any noticeable symptoms (by the way, this film was distributed in North America by A24).

``The Beguiled'' (17), a remake of `` The Night of the White Skin '' (1971) starring Clint Eastwood , is a thriller depicting the fear of women, but this one also depicts their escalation. When you consider that behind the actions you do are ``anxiety'' and ``fear,'' made up of whether you are aware or not, and a fundamental loneliness, it makes sense. Although cooperation was temporarily broken when a different element, a man, joined the team, they later came together (they also had a sense of shared guilt, and demonstrated stronger teamwork than ever before); this also means that the feeling of loneliness has diminished. I'm starting to think it's because of this.

"On the Rocks" preview

His latest directorial work `` On the Rocks '' (2020), which he collaborated with Apple TV+ and A24, is ``a grown-up Somewhere,'' which is similar to ``Lost in Translation.'' Based on the story of a daughter who was worried about her distance from her father, a playboy, who teams up with her father to investigate the suspicions that her husband is having an affair, the story is based on the story of a daughter who is worried about her sense of distance from her father, who is a playboy. The process of ``feeling the bond between people'' is consistent with ``Somewhere''. Here, too, the relationship between a father and daughter, who cannot be honest, is woven together with the streets of New York.
