As a combat professional, I return to Vietnam for my fellow countrymen.

“Rambo/Rage Escape” preview

Director: George P. Cosmatos 94 minutes

After the success of the previous film, ``Rambo'' will now be set in the Vietnam battlefield.

Under his former boss, Colonel Trautman (Richard Crenna), Rambo participates in a U.S. military operation in exchange for amnesty. It was an investigation into the actual situation of prisoners of war who were left behind during the Vietnam War. However, after infiltrating the site, the plight of the prisoners is revealed, and the rescue team's betrayal causes the situation to develop into Rambo's decision to recapture the prisoners and a battle in enemy territory.

This film was released in the midst of the Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union, with Rambo returning to Vietnam as a professional fighter, and the film brought to the forefront the image of a nationalist hero who brought American POWs back alive. While the film's respect for Vietnam War veterans was the same as the previous film, the changes in the character of Rambo gave the film a stronger flavor as a rescue action film, and that format became the basic structure of subsequent series. .

Director George P. Cosmatos had already distinguished himself with action thrillers such as Cassandra Cross (1976) and Offside 7 (1979), but his 1983 film starring Peter Weller He was recommended by Sage Stallone (Stallone's son), whose favorite work was the suspense horror film ``Mad Teeth.'' This was successful, and the depiction of guerrilla warfare became extremely tense. One of the reasons Cosmatos accepted the offer was the participation of the famous cinematographer Jack Cardiff ( Black Narcissus (1947), The Red Shoes (1948)), whose oriental style of painting was different from his previous work. It has a great effect as something that gives the impression of a different stage.

The screenplay is credited to James Cameron, who worked on Titanic (1997) and Avatar (2009), but the first draft was written by him, and the setting is similar to a buddy movie in which Rambo has a sidekick to support him. It contained. Stallone abstained from this, but as a result, Rambo's sense of isolation became more pronounced, and his stoic character became even more prominent.
