Challenging a new stance without pushing yourself through
When I hear the name Terry Gilliam, what immediately comes to mind is the classic look that hasn't changed since the days of Monty Python: wide-eyed, frantic antics. The Day After all else, it's the fantastical worldview he's built as a film director.
Until now, the negative aspects of Gilliam's works, such as over budgets and a series of troubles, have been talked about with amusement. In other words, this is proof that he has always fought to overcome his limitations. Nothing would be easier if you could make money by reproducing something you've already done. However, his pride as an artist does not allow him to do so. He finds a huge windmill and rushes recklessly over and over again. This Don Quixote-like figure is the life of Terry Gilliam, the man we know best.
On the other hand, ``The Time Bandits'' (1991), which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2021, can be said to be a unique work that was born at a very special time in Gilliam's career history.
“Brazil” preview
In the late 1980s, he had a lot of trouble with producers and studios on `` Brazil '' (1985) and `` The Adventures of Baron Munchausen '' (1988). In other words, from an investor's perspective, Gilliam was branded a troublemaker. During this period, he seemed to have grown tired of the constant troubles in his life, and decided to try making films in a different way. In other words, he does not push his ``self'' as a film director, but rather dedicates himself to something. ``The Time Bandits'' was made at a time when Gilliam's mental state was experiencing a gentle breeze.
