What does it have in common with Coppola's masterpiece "The Conversation"?

Speaking of Bruckheimer's works, one of the highlights is the chemistry between the actors. In the past, Michael Bay's " The Rock " (1996) overturned the conventional wisdom of buddy movies, teaming up a newcomer and a legend, Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery, to create an unprecedented action movie. What's more, Connery's character is a "former British spy" who is like an aged James Bond, which is irresistible.

This trend is certainly carried over to the buddy duo Will Smith and Gene Hackman (who, coincidentally, was born in 1930, the same year as Sean Connery) in "Enemy of the Enemy of the State."

“The Conversation” Preview

Gene Hackman's role in this film is "Brill," a former NSA (National Security Agency) agent who has participated in numerous wiretaps and secret operations. Many people will be surprised to hear this. This is because "Harry Caul," whom Hackman played in Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece " The Conversation" (1974), also possesses similar skills. In other words, if you age Caul by about 20 years, you will have Brill.

Of course, "The Conversation" and "Enemy of the State" are not official sequels, and it's hard to say that the two roles played by Gene Hackman are the same person. However, everyone should be allowed the freedom to play within the realm of their imagination, and as if to target that gap, "Enemy of the State" is full of "nods" worthy of being called homage. So, here are some points that you'll notice when comparing these two films.
