What you can see from behind the scenes of production

Let's look beyond the surface and take a look behind the scenes of filmmaking. The first thing that catches your eye is the name of the screenwriter. David Marconi. Although he is not considered a major screenwriter, he is a talented writer who wrote the original story for " Die Hard 4.0 " (2007) and the screenplay for " The Foreigner " (2017) starring Jackie Chan. Interestingly, after The Graduate from university, he began his career as a staff member on Coppola's " The Outsider " (1983) and " Rumble Fish " (1983).

He then began writing an original script based on a request from Bruckheimer in the early 1990s for a "thriller about a man who is cornered by technology."

Of course, at this point, I never would have imagined that Gene Hackman from The Conversation would actually star in the film, and so it seems that the film was written without any vision of it paying homage to the original.

On the other hand, it was director Tony Scott who brought a new flow to the film. Without his thrilling beats, the film might have become more serious and gloomy. He said, "I had a hard time coming up with ideas for casting, but when I read the second draft, the names of Will and Gene came to mind."

Eventually, Gene Hackman, who was reluctant to agree, decided to participate, and Will Smith, on the other hand, accepted the role, even though the pay was too low for him at the time, saying, "If I can act with Hackman." With the main cast decided in this way, the details of this film began to take shape all at once. It is likely that the idea of paying homage to "The Conversation" was gradually incorporated from this stage onwards.

Also, according to one theory, Aaron Sorkin, Henry Bean, Tony Gilroy and other distinguished writers participated as rewriters in place of the busy David Marconi. They are said to have worked without any credit.
