Where will the nameless man end up?

When the protagonist finally discovers The Truth, he is met with an unexpected ending that even he did not expect. Polanski skillfully contrasts the opening scene, in which the protagonist, who was appointed as Macra's successor, leaves the publishing company, with the final scene. Humans are subject to a certain law that they are always at the mercy of chance. He also casually refers to the insubstantial existence that is destined for the profession of The Ghost Writer. In both Robert Harris's novel and the film, the protagonist has no name.

The film was met with rave reviews from the media. Renowned film critic Roger Ebert duly praised it, calling it "the work of a man who knows how to direct a thriller," while political analyst William Bradley called it "one of the best films I've seen in recent years." I agree.

As a political suspense film, it may have some rough spots. But the genius Polanski demonstrates how movies can stimulate people's imaginations, draw them into the frame the director has set, trap them there, excite them, and make them tremble. That kind of pleasure is what makes watching a movie so enjoyable.
