Why the original author withdrew his support for Blair

Some novelists have unexpected previous jobs. Agatha Christie was a pharmacist's assistant, John Grisham was a plumber, William Faulkner was a mailman, Stephen King was a high school janitor, etc.

Compared to them, it is perhaps not surprising that Robert Harris, who made his debut as a writer with the mystery `` The Father '' in 1992, had previously worked as a TV reporter and political columnist for the BBC. What makes him a bit unique may be that he published his novel ``The Ghost Writer'' just three months after Tony Blair resigned as British Prime Minister in 2007. This is because the theme of the novel was an indictment of the historic outrage in which former Prime Minister Blair, who Harris once actively supported, was the first of any country to support the US invasion of Iraq.

``The Ghost Writer'' expressed his anger and disappointment at the fact that a politician he believed in chose to act in a manner despised as ``Bush's poodle'' in the form of a political mystery.

“The Ghost Writer” preview

The main character, The Ghost Writer, will write the autobiography of former British Prime Minister Adam Lang on behalf of his predecessor. His predecessor, Makara, had died in a mysterious drowning accident. Lang's home on an island off the southern coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts, USA, is guarded by his strangely provocative wife, Ruth, and his secretary, Amelia, along with an unfriendly maid. The vast amount of manuscripts that Makara left behind are kept under strict control there, and they are not allowed to be taken out. According to Amelia, there was a security risk, but the content was so boring that it instantly cured my insomnia.

Around the same time, former British Foreign Secretary Richard Reichardt accused Lang of committing war crimes. Allegedly, Lang may have allowed terrorist suspects to be illegally detained and tortured by the CIA while he was prime minister. Did you know that the British Prime Minister was secretly connected to the CIA?
