A giant who can freely manipulate all kinds of songs.

I think the first time I came into contact with Ennio Morricone's music was Ryuichi Sakamoto's live album ``Playing The Orchestra'' released in 1988. This is a huge box set, with a mysterious design that makes a clanking sound when you shake the box. As a teenager, I bought this limited edition with my little pocket money and listened to the orchestral versions of `` Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence '' and `` The Last Emperor '' over and over again. And " 1900 " was included on Disc 3 of this album.

A magnificent, elegant, and powerful melody. I was immediately captivated by this song. Since it wasn't included on Ryuichi Sakamoto's album, I thought it was a treasured song that would only be played live, so I listened to it over and over again with gratitude. It was only later that I realized that this was composed by an Italian named Ennio Morricone, and that it was the theme song for Bernardo Bertolucci's `` 1900 '' (1976). Embarrassed by my own ignorance, I hurriedly bought Ennio Morricone's best album, and from the beginning the theme song from `` A Fistful of Dollars '' (64) jumped into my ears.

A melancholy guitar melody and that impressive whistle. This track was a complete surprise to me, as I was expecting an orchestral piece like `` 1900 ''. Even more mind-blowing was `` Magic and Ecstasy ,'' which was used in `` The Exorcist 2 '' (77). The sound is very disturbing, with a strange chorus of children overlaid with heavy metal. After listening to it, I finally realized it. Ennio Morricone is a giant who can freely manipulate gorgeous orchestral suites, avant-garde music like John Cage, and roaring heavy rock.
