In the summer Intolerance

"It's nice to look at the same sky. For example, if you look up at the sky during playtime and see the sun, you'll think that Dad is also looking at the sun. We're not in the same place and far apart, but it's the same as being there."

Sophie (Frankie Corio) knows her father's kindness. Callum (Paul Mezcal), a sometimes quirky father who moves like a ninja. 11 year old summer vacation. Paragliders flew about in the clear blue skies of Turkey when I visited with my father. Karam became a father at a young age. The two are often mistaken for siblings. As usual, Sophie who was mistaken has a somewhat happy expression. Sophie is clearly mentally more mature than boys of her age. This summer may be the last time Callum and Sophie can have a special relationship like best friends or lovers. A year ago is too early. A year from now may be too late. The journey of the two will eventually look like an escape from this world.

``Aftersun'' (22) sketches the emotions of an 11-year-old girl born during the summer. A sudden moment of silence. The cries of cicadas disappear as if being absorbed by the sunlight. The silence of the sea, just the two of us. It feels like walking around town at night. City lights reflecting on the asphalt. The body temperature of the hands stacked on top of each other. I'm sure it's a trivial incident that you won't be able to remember when you grow up. We cannot hold in our hearts everything that passes before our eyes. But even the heartlessness of forgetting is what I love about this movie.

Karam is a kind-hearted father. And Sophie is a girl who feels things very well. She realizes that her father is getting impatient with life. Sophie worries that the diving mask that disappeared to the bottom of the sea was expensive. He realizes that his father is financially inadequate. Callum, who became a father at a young age and broke up with his partner for some reason, is about to turn 31. Life may not have been this way for Callum. Callum seems to have a lot of feelings he hides from his daughter. However, the desire to "be a good father" in him is something that can be felt very sincerely.

A girl whose heart is swirling with the hope of becoming an adult, and a father who is about to be overwhelmed by the fear of growing older. The work extracts the point where the emotional dynamics of the two contrasting people intersect. Callum and Sophie hold the camera. Mini DV camcorders were the newest equipment around the year 2000. And the world around 2000, when Blur's hit song " Tender " felt a "prayer" as a person living under the same sky of the same era. That summer air
