A satire on American history

While desperately running away from the fog, the people eventually learn of a terrifying secret hidden in this port town. The shipwreck of the Elizabeth Dane happened 100 years ago. Due to the heavy fog, the ship crashed into a rock and was thought to have sunk just before reaching the town. Since then, it has been said that the ghosts of the deceased passengers of the Elizabeth Dane appear in Antonio Bay on nights when the sea is foggy. However, it turns out that this was actually an accident deliberately caused by the town's founders.

The ghosts, who appeared to be terrifying Monster, turned out to be sad victims who had everything stolen from them, including their lives, property, names, and voices. What's more, they were suffering from Hansen's disease, and after coming aboard the ship believing in the lie that a sanitarium was being built, they were brutally murdered. The story of these ghosts reveals their outlines, which were only seen as dark shadows, and poses the following questions to us. "Who is really scary? Is it us or you?"

The people hailed as the town's founders and pioneers were actually terrifying murderers and usurpers, and the people living here were all descendants of these villains. This is truly a scathing satire on America, a nation that built its prosperity by stealing land from indigenous people. Carpenter himself said in the interview collection `` Poetics of Fear: John Carpenter '' (Film Art), ``The whole story is loosely based on a real incident that took place in Santa Barbara, California, during the Wild West. I'm sure every government that has ever existed has done something similar." Like Carpenter, who has continued to create anti-establishment and anti-authority stories, including `` Escape from New York '' (1981) and `` They Live '' (1988), ``The Fog'' also firmly challenges the American founding story. It's included.
