Masterpieces of the past that suffered from accidents in which the lead roles were changed.

There have been several movies in the past where the lead actor was replaced during the production process. For example, Apocalypse Now (1979), a Vietnam War genre giant directed by Francis Ford Coppola. In the film, Harvey Keitel (1973) of " Mean Streets " played Captain Willard, who is tasked with assassinating a superior officer. However, when Coppola saw the rush during the first week of filming, which had been scheduled for five months, he felt something was wrong and dismissed Keitel. The role was taken over by Martin Sheen, who starred in `` Runaway from Inferno '' (1973).

In Japan, director Akira Kurosawa's Sengoku period drama `` Kagemusha '' (1980) is probably well known as a film that underwent this kind of change. At the time of production announcement, Shintaro Katsu was scheduled to play the dual roles of Takeda Shingen and his shadow warrior, meeting the director for the first time. However, on the second day of rehearsals, in the studio, Katsu suggested that Kurosawa record his performance on video to confirm his performance, but Kurosawa refused. The two parties broke down, and Tatsuya Nakadai, who had a deep connection to Kurosawa's works, was chosen to play Shingen and Kagemusha instead.

Coincidentally, in later years, Ken Watanabe, who played the leading role of Kenshin Uesugi, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in Calgary, Canada, in the original work by Shiogoro Kaionji, titled `` Heaven and Earth '' (1990), in which the same Lord Shingen appears. He was sentenced and had no choice but to resign. Instead, Takaaki Enoki underwent an emergency audition and was cast in the role.

In most of these productions, problems surfaced shortly after filming began, and the cast was replaced. So while it may not be smooth, the damage caused during production is relatively light. However, there are cases where this is not the case, with serious consequences.

In the case of the Korean suspense drama " Seven Days " (2007), in which a female lawyer whose daughter is taken hostage is forced to find a murderer innocent, about 30% of the film had already been shot when the lead actress was changed from Kim Sun-ah of the TV drama " My Name is Kim Sam- soon" (2005) to Kim Yun-jin of " Shiri " (1999) and the American TV drama " LOST " (2004-10). This led to the production company suing Sun-ah for compensation for filming costs.

In addition, ``Back to the Future '' (1985) is no exception when it comes to changes in filming when many scenes have been completed. By the time Eric Stoltz, who played the main character, Marty, was replaced by Michael J. Fox for ``lack of humor'', approximately 40% of the film had already been shot. Changing the lead role at this stage could be said to be quite risky, but director Robert Zemeckis and producer Bob Gale decided to do it. Fortunately, the changes worked, and Michael's character, Marty, was well-received and loved by many audiences. This work became a worldwide hit and became a masterpiece series that continues to generate fans.
