The most spectacular opening scene in movie history

Opening of " Blade Runner 2049 ". A spinner (flying car) flies over solar panels and a farm. The aerial shot that captures the bird's-eye view of the radiating solar panels is truly stunning. I watched it in IMAX 3D, and the moment I saw this scene, I was absorbed in the screen and had the illusion of falling. And I really got goosebumps. . Director Denis Villeneuve must have been quite enthusiastic about this opening. This can be clearly seen from Villeneuve's comments on ``Blade Runner.'' "When I actually saw the movie (Blade Runner), I was shocked by the opening scene. It was one of the most powerful opening scenes in movie history." (Blade Runner 2049 pamphlet)

“Blade Runner 2049” preview

The pressure to make a sequel to Blade Runner is incredible. It is our destiny to be constantly compared. What do you think of this time compared to the legendary opening of ``Blade Runner''? Will he be able to grab the audience's attention at the beginning? and. . Well, needless to say, those worries turned out to be unfounded. "Blade Runner 2049" blew away that pressure in its opening. It was that amazing. The seriousness of this movie was clearly conveyed, and it had the power to draw you into an overwhelming world.

Who created the overwhelming worldview of “Blade Runner 2049”? ?

So what did you think of the opening of "Blade Runner," which Villeneuve praised so highly and is the source of comparison? Of course, it goes without saying that this one is also great. A decadent industrial area in Los Angeles at night, following the caption "LOS ANGELES NOVEMBER, 2019". Endless factory lights, flames spewing out of chimneys, and spinners flying overhead with lens flares. And the solemn music of Vangelis overlaps there. This scene, called the "Netherworld Scenery" (and it's miniature!), is filled with images of a quality that is hard to believe for a movie made over 35 years ago.

“Blade Runner Final Cut” preview

This is one of the reasons why ``Blade Runner'' has become a legend and is still talked about from generation to generation. The quality of this "image" is overwhelmingly high.

Needless to say, the technological advances in Hollywood science fiction movies have been remarkable. In particular, the evolution of CG technology is amazing, and it may be safe to say that there is nothing that can no longer be expressed. However, even for today's audiences who regularly watch such high-quality images, the quality of the images in "Blade Runner" still remains at a comparable level. In an era without CG, they were able to create something of this level simply by using the characteristics of film and lenses. It's amazing that there are almost no cuts that make you laugh because the special effects are clearly visible, which is common in old science fiction movies. This high quality makes it more persuasive as a science fiction work, and is probably why it became a legend that is still passed down to this day.
