“The Big Lebowski” synopsis

Jeff Lebowski, also known as Dude, is a middle-aged single man still living the hippie life of the 1970s. One night, Lebowski is attacked by two thugs who want him to pay off his wife's debt, but Lebowski is stunned as he has no recollection of it. Apparently, the thugs mistook him for a millionaire with the same last name and name. Unable to control his anger, Dude and his friends rush towards the millionaire, but...

From a real-time “bit of fun” to a new cult movie staple!

"There was a man far to the west. His name was Jeff Lebowski. He didn't like the name his parents gave him, so he called himself 'The Dude.'"

While the song " Tumbling Tumbleweeds " (also sung in the 1944 Warner Bros. film " Hollywood Treasure Box ") by Sons of the Pioneers (formed in 1933), the oldest group in the American country music scene, plays in the background, a narrator's narration is superimposed over the image of tumbleweeds rolling in the wilderness. The voice from above is a cowboy-like man with a Texas accent (Sam Elliott, playing the role of "The Stranger") who appears later. The story then moves to Los Angeles in 1991. Around the time that George H.W. Bush strengthened his confrontational stance against Saddam Hussein of Iraq, who had invaded Kuwait, and the Gulf War was raging, the protagonist Jeff Lebowski (Jeff Bridges), a.k.a. the Dude, appears as a representative LA lazy man, drinking milk in a supermarket without permission. The 1998 American film The Big Lebowski, directed by Joel Coen (older brother) and co-written by him and Ethan Coen (younger brother), begins with such an introduction.

An enthralling crime comedy inspired by Raymond Chandler's 1939 detective novel The Big Sleep , set in LA, but with a completely different twist. An unemployed middle-aged man who hangs out at a bowling alley with his friends every day is mistaken for a millionaire with the same last name, and soon an absurd fate unfolds... This film is famous as a recent example of a movie whose cult popularity has increased year by year, rather than its real-time reviews. The Coen brothers reached an unparalleled level of perfection with their previous film, Fargo (1996), winning the director's award at the Cannes Film Festival for the second time after Barton Fink ( 1991). (He set a record for winning the award three times, the most in history). Many critics and audiences were perplexed by the lackluster performance of The Big Lebowski, which had received many other honors and was expected to be the next movie. It wasn't good either. However, the situation changed completely after it became a video software. It has gained a cult following due to its unique looseness, rich multi-layered structure, and large amount of information, and has become a standard video for late-night gatherings of clubbers to watch - Midnight Movie for home use. It achieved the status of a masterpiece, similar to the new era's `` The Rocky Horror Picture Show '' (1975/Director: Jim Sharman).
