"There was a man far to the west. His name was Jeff Lebowski. He didn't like the name his parents gave him, so he called himself 'The Dude.'"

While the song " Tumbling Tumbleweeds " (also sung in the 1944 Warner Bros. film " Hollywood Treasure Box ") by Sons of the Pioneers (formed in 1933), the oldest group in the American country music scene, plays in the background, a narrator's narration is superimposed over the image of tumbleweeds rolling in the wilderness. The voice from above is a cowboy-like man with a Texas accent (Sam Elliott, playing the role of "The Stranger") who appears later. The story then moves to Los Angeles in 1991.
