Why is “I, Robot” attracting attention now?
At the time of its release, director Alex Proyas' sci-fi film ``I, Robot'' (2004) did not perform well at the box office (*1) and received poor reviews. However, 15 years have passed since its release, and I feel that the atmosphere has changed. For example, recently, when I asked students in a university lecture to ``discuss their favorite video work,'' many students chose ``I, Robot.'' This is thought to be due to the growing interest in AI and robotics, and it is likely that it has received more attention now than when it was released.
*1 The production cost was $120,000,000 (estimated), but the box office gross in the United States was $144,801,023 (according to IMDb). However, in Japan, the film's performance was not too bad at 3.75 billion yen (according to the Japan Motion Picture Producers Federation).
The draft is an original work
The film's title is taken from Isaac Asimov's short story collection `` I, Robot '' (50), but the story is not directly related to Asimov's work. The original idea was the original story "Hardwired" by screenwriter Jeff Winter.

Winter acquired knowledge as a screenwriter at a workshop at the University of Iowa, and continued writing screenplays while working as a factory worker, English instructor, cartoonist, and bus driver. He completed three scripts in 1995. The first screenplay sold to Fox 2000 was the science fiction film ``Spaceless,'' but it fell into development Inferno, with endless development meetings and rewrites at multiple studios, and has not yet been released.
However, his talent was recognized and he was given the job of rewriting Hironobu Sakaguchi's original idea for the full CG movie `` Final Fantasy '' (2001). Furthermore, the crime story ``Long Hello and Short Goodbye'' was made into a German film in 1999.
