What Nolan wanted to depict with the world's highest resolution

In making this film, Nolan borrowed a good copy of the war movie masterpiece ``Saving Saving Private Ryan '' from director Steven Spielberg and watched it. He then decided on the direction he wanted to take.

Speaking of Saving Private Ryan, the first scene that comes to mind is the Normandy landing scene. Bombs explode in a storm of bullets, pieces of flesh fly off in blood, and soldiers die one after another like insects. The haunting picture of war Inferno unfolds with an overwhelming sense of realism. In terms of battle and defense at the water's edge, it wouldn't be surprising to imagine a similar scene in Dunkirk. But Nolan was different. Even though it's a war movie, it took a different approach than Saving Private Ryan.

``Dunkirk'' was cut with the world's highest resolution, and the entire movie is filled with an overwhelming sense of realism that will take your breath away. However, it's a little different from the feeling of being thrown into the middle of a battlefield in Saving Saving Private Ryan. By using high-resolution, clear footage, the ``war that took place more than 70 years ago,'' an ``extraordinary'' event for us, is shown as a realistic ``everyday'' experience right now. Coupled with Nolan's authentic approach of avoiding the use of CG as much as possible, such as fighter planes, battleships, and the huge number of soldiers who were unable to escape, the film brings you closer to what you are seeing with a sense of realism.

The reality is that you just want to go back to your hometown and you have no choice but to run away. The reality is that you can misjudge in extreme situations. The reality is that many soldiers, civilians, ships, and airplanes continue to be dragged into the disaster. Although ``Dunkirk'' takes the form of a war movie with strong entertainment overtones, it inevitably confronts us with the emptiness and cruelty of continuing to waste enormous amounts of money due to the irresistible force of war.

Although the genre and method are completely different, the excellent Japanese animated film `` In This Corner of the World '' seems to have a similar approach. This movie carefully depicts the daily lives of women during the war, mainly through home dramas, and there is no anti-war Arrival at all. It highlights the foolishness and emptiness, and it hits close to home.

When faced with the genre of ``war movies,'' Nolan came up with ``Dunkirk.'' This is an answer that Nolan was able to achieve because he used an IMAX camera to shoot the real thing without CG, and it can also be said to have created a new answer in the history of film.
