Music is salvation - What the main character Stephen and the director have in common

There is hope even in this closed-off drama. One of the few outdoor scenes in daylight is in a cemetery, where Stephen and his female friend Linder sit on a bench and converse. Linder was actually a major influence on Morrissey at the time, making his record debut with the legendary post-punk band Ludas, where he was the vocalist, about three years earlier than The Smiths . Incidentally, as depicted in the film, Morrissey had a conversation with his girlfriend in a cemetery, quoting poetry, which also inspired the lyrics of The Smiths' song `` Cemetry Gates .''

With Linder's support, Stephen takes to the stage for the first time as a vocalist for the local band Nosebreeze. In the film, this is the only time Stephen played a gig with Nosebreeze, but the band actually split up after performing on stage twice, due to the departure of guitarist Billy Duffy.

Director Gil empathetically depicts the exhilaration they felt after completing their first stage performance. This is because before he became a film director, he also admired his countrymen, The Smiths, and dreamed of making a career in a rock band. In the 1990s, that dream came true. He debuted under the name Mark Lee as the frontman of the band That Uncertain Feeling. The only album left by this band was also released in Japan.

Afterwards, he joined New Order's Peter Hook's Monaco tour as a guitarist. In 2001, he formed The Rain Band, which has also released one album.

After that, Gil gave up his career in music and aspired to become a film maker, achieving the remarkable feat of having his first short film nominated for an Academy Award. When I flew to Los Angeles to attend the award ceremony, I met Billy Duffy and the project for ``England is Mine'' began, so I never knew what would happen in my life.
