"Ed Wood" synopsis

Hollywood in the 50's. Ed Wood, a budding director, is looking for a distribution company to make his film when he meets legendary ghost star Bela Lugosi. As he grew older, Lugosi became completely depressed and became addicted to drugs. Ed Wood, who had admired Lugosi since childhood, decided to have Lugosi appear in his films. He raised funds on the condition that Lugosi appear in the film and made his directorial debut, but...

It is probably not well known that `` The Shawshank Redemption '' (1994) was not a big hit when it was released, but gradually gained high praise after it was made into a video. Also, `` Night of the Hunter '' (55), which is now highly acclaimed as the original psychological thriller, was not a hit when it was released. Charles Laughton has since stepped away from directing.

As you can see from these examples, movie evaluation is not absolute. It is expressed relative to the times and context. Ed Wood's reputation as the ``worst film director of all time'' is also a relative assessment of the times and context.

Who is Ed Wood?

Real name: Edward Davis Wood Jr. 1924. Born in Poughkeepsie, New York. He served as a Marine in World War II and participated in the Battle of Tarawa. After the end of the war. From running errands at a movie studio, he ends up working as a salesy film director who is troubled by his inherent arrogance, and ends up making his favorite horror movie, even though he lies about making a work based on his own hobby or a popular science fiction movie.

In the movie production field, things are haphazard and sloppy. I have no knowledge. Of course, the resulting film was a mess, and was turned away not only by investors and studios, but also by audiences. A crazy producer tries to get Ed Wood to make a movie because he has a lot of bad reviews, but he ends up losing out on work. Still, he can't stay away from movies, and although he earns a small salary by writing scripts for low-budget films and pornographic novels, he becomes addicted to alcohol.

1978. Ed Wood died of alcoholism at just 54 years old.

Two years later. A book called ``The Golden Turkey Awards'' will be published. He spotlights (makes fun of) Z-grade movies such as "Rat Pfink & Boo Boo" (66) and "Mr. Othelloman/The Man with Two Faces" (72), and John Guillermin's version of " King Kong " (76). He became popular for his outspoken ways, such as by making fun of ``The Conqueror'' (1956), in which John Wayne played Genghis Khan.

In the book, director Ed Wood and his work ` `Plan 9 from Outer Space '' (59) were featured in the ``Worst Director Award'' and ``Worst Picture Award'', and their extremely poor performance attracted attention. It became a cult, and the director's life was eventually made into a movie. This was the birth of "Ed Wood" (1994).
