I remember when it gets hot

Every year, when it gets hot in early summer, I think of ``Stand by Me'' (1986). It was released in Japan in April 1987, but I saw it at the start of summer, much later than its release, at a desolate masterpiece theater that once existed in my hometown. I was a junior high school student around the same age as the main characters in this movie.

``Stand by Me'' is based on the fall edition ``The Body: Fall From Stand by Me '' of the short story collection ` `The Seasons of Fear '' by horror novelist Stephen King. ing. The original title was ``Corporation,'' a horror-like title typical of Stephen King, but the film's title was ``Stand by Me,'' a reference to Ben E. King's famous song that plays at the ending. Although it is not Stephen King's autobiography, there are parts that are based on episodes from his own childhood.

"Stand by Me" trailer

Speaking of Stephen King, many of his works have been made into films, including ` ` Carrie '' (1976) and `` Misery '' (1990) . The spring edition of ``Rita Hayworth in Prison'' is based on the film `` The Shawshank Redemption '' (1994).

The story is set in the fictional small town of 1,200 people called ``Castle Rock,'' which is familiar from Stephen King's works.*1 It was a hot summer in 1959. Hearing a rumor that a boy had been found dead along the railroad tracks a little outside of town, 12-year-old Gordy (Wil Wheaton) gathers at a secret base in a tree with his friends, a charismatic brat. Together with General Chris (River Phoenix), ``crazy and reckless man'' Teddy (Corey Feldman), and ``natural man'' Byrne (Jerry O'Connell), he sets out to find a corpse in order to become a hero in town. This is a story about coming out.

*1 Castle Rock, which appears in other Stephen King works, is a fictional town in Maine, but Castle Rock in this work is a fictional town in Oregon.
